All eyes were on South Florida last week as Miami held it’s annual Swim Week. Press, bloggers, buyers and fashionistas, crowded the streets of Miami Beach as they made their ways to runway shows, trade fairs, pop-up shops and parties, that were all centered around swimsuits.

This year I got to attend fashion shows and events from Funkshion for the first time, and the island girl in me was beyond excited to see what the designers have in stores for us in 2017. Yes, these bathing suits will not hit the stores until next year. If you were following fashionayiti on Snapchat and Instagram, you already had a little preview of the fashion shows I attended which are: Beach Riot, Blue Life, Kai Lani, Ana Kosturova, Maaji, Monica Hansen Beachwear etc… to name a few.

So, recapping Miami Swim Week in general, here are 8 of the hottest trends that we will see in swimsuits next year:

  • Plunging One Piece
One piece suits are here to stay and this time the more revealing the better!
From left to right: Beach Riot, Aguaclara, Blue Life
  • Halter Bikinis
A less conservative halter tops were a favorite on the runways. Designers added a risqué side to the halter tops with creative and sheer cuts.

  • Creative Cut-Outs
Designers went the extra mile to give us more creative designs with fun and slick cut-outs on both one pieces and bikinis.

  • Wrap Around Tops
This season designers played around with the basic triangle bikini top giving it a little “extra” with intricate ties and wraps on bikinis tops, bottoms, and one pieces.

  • Bold Prints
Florals, tribal and ethnic prints, stripes and colors were not scarce on the runway.

  • Tassels
This swinging and playful accent adorned some bathing suits and ever cover-ups, creating a hippie vibe for the boho girl.

  • Straps
Straps were everywhere on the runways evoking a playful sensation.

Spring Trend: Off-The-Shoulder

Spring Trend: Off-The-Shoulder
One of our favorite trend this spring/summer is definitely the off the shoulder top. It’s flirty, flattering, and hides your pit stains!!
Be it in denim or bohemian style for a casual day look, or a statement top for a night out, show some skin and bare shoulder with either tops or dresses with the eazy breezy off-the-shoulder trend.

Hair Trend: Boxer Braids

img_5981-1
Kim and North West with matching braids

Scrolling through our Instagram feeds it’s clear that the hottest and biggest hairstyle of 2016 is the double French/Dutch braids also known as the boxer braids.

img_5978
Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby

Just like the name suggests, the hairstyle was first inspired by female boxers (Hilary Swank rocked them in Million Dollar Baby). Easy and low maintenance, the boxer braids aren’t a new favorite in the gym or in the ring. They are however, quickly becoming a new favorite in Hollywood and in the social media world.

img_5987

Celebs like Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry and Hailey Baldwin to name only a few, have been showing off this hairstyle on social media and what’s more, this hair trend has even been seen on runways during Fashion Week!

img_5986

If you know me, you know I’m always braiding my hair especially in boxer braids. Besides being convenient, (as they help keep my hair out of my face when I box) they are also stylish and look good with both casual and evening outfits. Funny enough, as I was leaving the gym the other day someone asked me if the braids were the new trend. Well, it looks like the trend is catching up here in Haiti as well :p

How to get the boxer braids?
Start by parting your hair in two. Then Dutch braid each side from the top while adding strands of hair left and right as you make your way down. And voila!

90’s Throwback: Choker Trend

img-set

For quite some time now bloggers, models off duty, celebs and fashion houses have been taking on this not so new trend.

Your 90’s favorite staple has gotten huge again and even better. Velvet, metal, leather, or rhinestone, the choker adds a little edginess to your look.

Think ” Rock Star”, the choker is your go to accessory this season. Available at almost every clothing and accessory store, you can also come up with your own DIY by tying a string around your neck.

The trend started making a buzz here in Haiti and we’ve spotted a couple of different chokers and looks:

The print for this Spring is the “grown-up” gingham, with a fresh spin to the classic picnic pattern. From Altuzarra’s sweet baby blue, to Oscar De La Renta’s oversize prints, designers stayed in check.

Spring 2014 Trends

It’s finally spring! For most of us anyways (We’re looking at you, dear readers in Canada). Spring is the time to embrace the most lady like frivolities. Skater skirts, fun vibrant patterns, killer orange lipsticks are all a part of fashions most colorful season. As everything thaws out, our spirits are lifted and what better way of showing that than by ditching the see of black and grey we stuck to for the last 5 months?

Pastel Colors
A trend we’ve seen almost on every Spring/Summer 14 runway: pretty pastels in mint green, lavender and blush pink.
