Rock Neons in the Fall

NEONS were a definite MUST have this summer! From fluorescent YELLOW t-shirts, to radiant PINK lips, NEONS were everywhere!!

Fall is here but some of us are still attached to our vivid items and can’t seem to let go. NEWSFLASH: it is OK to wear those bright colors during the cold months! It is most certainly not an issue for those of us living in the Caribbean, but for the rest of the world getting ready to face the cold, here are a few tips to lightening up your outfit!

1. Mix it with Black: Wear bright neon pants with a black cardigan or black top like Bianka Joseph or Jessica Alba

2. Give your attire a pop of color by adding neon accessories like funky colored shades, nails or with statement jewelry like this necklace by a Haitian Artisan

3.  Carry a bright  and colorful purse to lift up your otherwise dark outfit

4. Keep it Classy just like Katy Perry with her yellow crocodile blouse toped with a gray blazer

It’s the Primetime Emmy Awards Best and Worst…

The Primetime Emmy Awards Ceremony is one of Hollywoods biggest events… From SNL‘s Tina Fey to Mad Men‘s buxom Christina Hendricks, anyone who is anyone is invited

The Emmy Awards had some very clear trends going on… The least expected was the plethora of yellow gowns, as yellow is rarely the most flattering color. The curvy bombshells showed off their curves, and some even showed their very pregnant curves (Congrats to the lovely Clare Danes). In a nutshell, the Emmy Awards was as always, a star studded event that flaunted the best and worst of fashion.

FOR THE WORST:

5) Amanda Peet looks washed out in the nude gown. Unfortunately the fit isn’t any better… She looks a little shapeless. How unfortunate…

4) Glenn Close is also a miss I’m afraid. The pattern is odd, which isn’t necessarily bad but it’s quite unflattering.

3) Julianna Margulies wears a Giambattista Valli gown. The print is a reminiscence of 18th century french chateau curtains… It doesn’t seem very inspired now does it?

2) Ashley Judd‘s Carolina Hererra is too pink, too shiny. The fabric does not feel chic enough for the red carpet.

1) Julianne Moore in Christian Dior. I love Julianne Moore, but the big Canari yellow dress is so wrong for her complexion and hair color… It’s a little Big Bird from Sesame street.

And our Faves of the night are…

5) Kat Dennings looks anything but broke in this gorgeous maroon J.Mendel. The dress fits her curves like a glove.

4) Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier. The Once upon a time star looks very avant garde in this vibrant number.

3) Emily VanCamp in J.Mendel is perfection. The soft grey of the gown offsets her complexion nicely. Love!

2) Kelly Osbourne wears a purple Zac Posen gown and looks so chic. I love how her hair compliments the gown… As for the lips… Always a fan of plum!

1) And the winner is… Julianne Hough in a Swarovski crystal embellished Georges Hobeika gown. Nothing looks better on a blond than blue, and this aqua gown is stunning and dramatic… So Emmy Worthy.

Yes guys, you can wear skinny jeans …

How many of you guys have pushed away the thought of wearing skinny jeans, afraid of being mocked? In the past, skinny jeans have been worn exclusively by rockers or gay men, and that’s probably why most of you hesitate or are skeptical when it comes to skinny jeans. Over the years, we’ve found that they have become steadily integrated into the fashion scene in the form of skinny blue jeans, colored jeans and even skinny pants. Nowadays skinny pants have been adopted by many and thus have developed a more ‘urban’ identity.

Yes, even rappers!

Honestly, I find men in skinny jeans very sexy. Let’s be clear: by “skinny jeans” I don’t mean “pants so tight they look like leggings”. They should be close-fitting and, without delving to much into vulgarity, accentuate the male form.

Men’s Health fashion director, Brian Boye once said, “The most important thing to understand about skinny jeans is that they don’t make you look skinny”. The harsh reality is that not everyone can wear skinny jeans and actually pull it off. Many details should be taken into consideration when deciding whether or not to wear skinny jeans:

First of all, in order to rock skinny jeans, you must have the right body type. They look best on guys who have an endomorph body type (in other words, a slim body type). Since skinny jeans should sit low on your hips, men who are muscular or who are a little on the heavy side, should refrain from wearing them.

Secondly, a rule of thumb when it comes to wearing skinny jeans is, if your feet are bigger than size 11, DON’T! The fact of the matter is, wearing skinny jeans draws attention to your ankles, and the next logical step are your feet. Longer feet tend to look more awkward with skinny jeans, so that’s a definite “no-no”.

Lastly, what you wear the skinny jeans with makes a huge difference. Our personal favorite combo is skinny jeans with a plain V-neck T-shirt, preferably a solid color. This can be worn as is, or, for a less casual look, underneath a plain blazer. A very fashionable alternative, that is very popular these days, is the skinny jean/plaid shirt combo. As for shoes, best options are Converse® and Toms® for casual attire and distressed boots for a more stylish look. If you feel like being a little more daring and adventurous, try rolling up the hem of the pants and wearing moccasins. It’s a classier and edgier look that is sure to get you all the kinds of attention.

Helpful tip: If you don’t feel like rolling up the hem, or aren’t comfortable doing so, roll up the arms of the shirt or blazer. It makes a difference.

Brave Fashionisto Christopher Thomas sent us his pictures buying skinny pants.

Last Week’s Favorite

Twenty-2 jewelry designer Coraline Bennett Acra was spotted wearing a vintage skeleton T-shirt with basic satin cream trousers. For accessories, the Fashionista opted for a Chanel quilted bag, Tod’s navy blue sandals and was wearing her own creation of sea green necklace with a gold chain.

Her sense of fashion is not only reflected in her outfit, but in that of her adorable son Reza. He wore a plain white Tee, 7 Jeans and red Tod’s Gommino Suede Driving Moccasins.

Casual Friday

Our favorite day of the week is finally here !! My outfit today you dare ask? It’s very simple and casual.

Dark skinny low-rise jeans, loose white embroidered top with wide laced straps: both from ZARA. Over it, a lightweight curved lapel taupe blazer from Lush. And since it’s Friday, before work, I stopped at the salon to do my nails. I’m wearing snakeskin sandals with gold stripes in the back from Steve Madden. Chanel sunglasses in brown, and a black tote bag.

Celebrity Muse: Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway cannot be slowed down.

Between the princess diaries and the very anticipated “Les Misérables” motion picture, Anne has gone from the cute and funny Jersey Girl, to one of the most respected actors in the world. Not to mention she has an Oscar nomination under her belt.

Her style has very much evolved since her big break in 2001. She started off with a few mishaps (like all of us I might add), but after the acclaimed comedy the Devil wears Prada in 2006, Anne took cue from her character Andrea’s style makeover and became a bona fide fashion force to be reckoned with.

What sets her apart from the rest of her piers, is her seemingly nonchalant attitude towards trends. She dresses in comfortable, classic silouhettes that eerily resemble a modern Audrey Hepburn. Her everyday outfits consist of fairly safe colors and shapes… Her secret  to looking fabulous? Fit fit fit! Being comfortable does not mean frumpy, and looking great does not require hours of work.  The batman star always looks healthy and happy (I would too if I could fit into that cat suit… Oh well ).

On the red carpet, this alabaster beauty is old hollywood picture perfect. Her porcelain complexion can looked washed out, but Anne knows what colors work best with her skin. And how does she keep her skin so radiant? Sunblock ladies… Golden may be exotic and sexy, but melanoma is not worth it. Anne demonstrates that beauty is not black and white, so next time you’re thinking you’re too pasty, remember Anne is too 😉

At War with Dark Circles

To find a solution to dark circles, we must first understand the cause. It can be due to multiple things like stress, lack of sleep, iron deficiency and some of us just have it in our genes!

Whatever the cause, one thing is for sure: we all want to get rid of them!

I spent years looking for a solution but my simple liquid foundation was not cutting it. After trying multiple products, I came to the conclusion that my battle was not hopeless because   I was beginning to see results!

Here are two tips for reducing the appearance of Dark Circles:

1) After applying your daily moisturizer before putting your makeup, apply a brightening eye cream or gel around your eyes. My favorites are:

Available on www.clarins.com for $35

Clarins Eye Contour Gel

It’s potent! Eye Cream by Benefit

Day 1 at Milan Fashion Week

The New Yorkers have surprised us, the Londoners have wowed us, now it’s Milano’s turn to mesmerize us.

It seemed like the flowing style was a common factor at day 1 of Milan Fashion Week where designers created a fluid look for their ss 2013 collections. The catwalk at Gucci was a show of bold colors, where models in long silhouettes displayed fushia, electric blue, mustard yellow, and bright green in silk, leather and suede fabrics. Alberta Ferretti created an “Under The Sea” atmosphere in her show. She had her models in a palette of ocean blue, sea green, and pearl colors, and fabrics such as tulle, chiffon, crêpe, organza and lace, creating a dainty mermaid look.

Other designers : Simonetta Ravizza, Mila Schön, John Richmond, N°21, Francesco Scognamiglio, 1a Classe – Alviero Martini Collection, Paola Frani.

New shops at Royal Oasis

Royal Oasis, the most anticipated project in Pétion-Ville this year, opened its doors on Friday September 14, 2012. After over two years of reconstruction, a selection of seven stores opened their doors to the public, offering potential clients delectable Kir Royals and tasty hors-d’oeuvres.

On the opening day, we were not able to thoroughly tour the stores because of a rather large crowd, so we decided to go back after a few days. The site is gorgeous and very welcoming. On the first floor, you’ll find Ibiza and Karma, two stores carrying clothing lines respectively for men and women, and Le Boudoir showcasing their assortment of accessories. You will also find Edge, an electronics store and Caprices Events, a “one-stop”, full-service event planning store. Gallerie Marassa, an art gallery featuring contemporary Haitian art and Atelier Canush, a well-stocked furniture store that promises to satisfy a variety of tastes and styles, are located on the second floor.

In a luxurious fashion, Ibiza offers impressive articles of clothing for men. Being the representative of the Green, Orange and Black Lines of Hugo Boss, its set-up mirrors that of a classic Hugo Boss store. But the appeal of the store does not end there. What makes it more unique and captivating is that it also represents the Bogosse Line from Haitian designers Patrick and Fabrice Tardieu. From jeans and casuals, to stylish shirts and suits, you will find an impressive variety of clothing for men including swim wear. Also available at Ibiza is a selective line from Diesel.

No one does it better than Priya Saint-Rémy when it comes to fashion merchandising and the opening of her 4th store “Karma” proves it. Her merchandise ranges from cool, casual tops to elegant cocktail attire. Karma truly does have a selection for different occasions and styles. Jean Paul Ataker, Collective Concepts, Lauren G Adams and Kelsi Dagger are also exclusively sold at Karma. You will also find fine 18kt gold and semi-precious jewelry.

The talented handbag designer, Francoise Elizée, opened her fashion boutique Le Boudoir, carrying a selection of beauty and personal care items, such as fragrance body lotions and bath items, as well as a section of Black Up make-up. Browsing through her store, we noticed a colorful collection of Anick Vorbe’s Tunics, Gucci, Emporio-Armani and Carrera sunglasses, Fossil and DKNY watches, and a variety of accessories, including fantasy jewelry and evening clutches. Of course we cannot forget Françoise Elizée’s own line of exotic crocodile, python & ostrich skin handbags which are exposed on the right side of the store.

The opening of Royal Oasis, and particularly the opening of its clothing stores, will help in increasing the clothing options we have available in Haiti. It gives consumers a wider variety of choices when it comes to shopping (and let’s face it, we need it). Also, instead of buying clothes abroad, we can shop in Haiti. In doing so, not only do we support the store owners, but we stimulate the economy and make Haiti a better place to live. We would like to formally congratulate Royal Oasis, Ibiza, Karma, and Le Boudoir on a fantastic opening and would like to wish them nothing but the best in the future.

Did London Fashion Week prove the city’s title as Fashion Capital of the World?

The extensive media coverage of the London Olympics this past summer as well as the elegance of the Duchess of Cambridge, really helped solidify the city’s title as “Fashion Capital of the World” for the second consecutive year, surpassing New York City that had held the title for years. While Paris and Milan will always be known for their elegance in Haute Couture, London’s fashion scene and designers are know for their extravagant eccentricity and edge. (see slideshow at the end)

What did London Fashion Week deliver this season?

This week, London-based designers have shown us once again why they are among the elite in the fashion world. From Louise Gray’s Kaleidoscope show and Peter Pilotto’s amazing prints to the 70’s disco party at Jonathan Saunders and Meadham Kirchhoff’s memorable spectacle, the runway was flooded with a variety of colors and quirky prints.

We cannot forget THE Christopher Kane who, in his collection this season, played with sheer fabrics as accents to garments, while also incorporating lace, ruffles and detailed beading as embellishments. Mulberry added a fresh scent of florals to its “English Garden” collection using a palette of cream, peach, and mint. Appropriately enough, Lady Gaga opened Philip Treacy’s show which was presented as an homage to Michael Jackson. Models walked the runway in Treacy’s collection which was inspired by vintage MJ costumes.

Of course, there is always London’s one and only Burberry Prorsum that delivered an electric space-age show. “I want it to be joyous, a bit sassier and sexier”, said creative director Christopher Bailey. Metallic leather, shiny satin corsets, foil-like fabrics, silk capes and iridescent body suits invaded the catwalk in a wide range of gemstone and metallic colors such as: copper, bronze, emerald, turquoise and garnet. For the finale, Bailey had his models walk out in a rainbow of metallic trench coats.

This year’s Spring/Summer 2013 London Fashion Week leaves little or no doubt that London deserves its title. It has continued to embody new and innovative fashion trends. In doing so, it daringly, yet capriciously, rounds out the “Big-Four” of Fashion Capitals of the World.

W3T / Sunkissed

Lo and I spent the weekend at the beach in the beautiful Cotes des Arcadins in Haiti.

Saturday night was the 3rd annual WET party where girls modeled in sexy bikinis and cover-ups. Despite the mass of people present, we managed to spot some very risqué, yet elegant beachwear: a deep-V one-piece suit with cut out sides, a crochet knitted back monokini, a strapless animal print, many colorful Brazilian bikinis, and some very sexy sheer beach tunics.

Our outfits for the beach?

Black shorts, white vintage tank, red espadrilles and black Fedora hat
Cut-off denim shorts, sailor laced back tee with black patent leather flip flops

Here are a few pictures of ” île de la Gonâve” (La Gonave island) where we spent the day on Sunday.

View leaving Cotes des Arcadins (mainland) to go to the island

The perks of living on an island: tropical sun, great friends, good laughs and the gorgeous Caribbean sea … Awesome weekend.

NYFW: Shoes we’ve seen on the runway

What did we notice this season in NYFW? A lot of knee-high strapped shoes, ankle cuffed shoes and believe it or not some designers even had their models in FLATS !
