Item of the week: The Bandana

This week’s item must have is the western inspired accessory known as the bandana.

Worn around the neck, or as a headband to pull back your hair, this 90’s go-to accessory is making a major comeback (like most 90s trends these days).

Celebs and bloggers have been spotted rocking this extra, making it the hottest accessory at coachella and a street style favorite!

5 things you should STEAL from your Boyfriend’s closet

So we all know how sexy women find androgyny, and menswear becomes a “must” in our closets. We love boyfriend jeans, suits, bow ties etc. Unfortunately, our counter parts tend to think… well “Eww”. Here are a couple of guy clothes you can pull off all the while looking hot for your man.

1. His Tees and shirts

image_123photo_123Oversize shirts are always stylish. They are understated and clean. Be it to stay home, or quickly throwing it on to rush out of the house.

2. His Jacket

3. His Hats and his watch

I personally love men’s watches. All women should wear them because they make such a statement.

4. His sunglasses

5. His perfume

OK this isn’t a clothing item, but the chemicals react differently with your skin, and the musky scents are very sexy.

Black and White Fashion Story

Here’s a fun fall look for all of you up north. I love wearing a fun girly dress and giving it some edge with a man’s leather jacket and some combat boots.

I kept the makeup pretty simple because I felt it would be too hard for a day outing to rock red lips (even though nothing makes me feel more confident than a red pout)

“I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!”

Yes we’re all guilty, so don’t try to hide it. It’s very true that we buy nice clothes, but after a couple of wears, they feel old and you can’t match them with anything (neon prints??? laced bustiers? WTH?)

The key, as I have found, is to have your basics down. If you have durable, timeless pieces that go with absolutely everything, you always look put together and chic. Who cares if you wore that Proenza leather jacket to death? It looks even more amazing as it ages. “Didn’t she wear that pair of jeans last week?” Uh yeah, because it gives her a “Cul d’enfer”. Listen up people, you want to always look like you know what your doing when it comes to fashion? Well, get down with your basics and build around those key pieces.

ZIP! ZIP! It’s that time of the year !

photoThis time every year, most of you abroad are packing to go home for the Holidays. While most of the world is packing coats and sweaters, we Haitians are packing bathing suits and short dresses.

ZIP! ZIP!

Besides from the childhood and family reunions, it’s also that time of the year when we see a lot of fashion in Haiti. Our little island is practically turned into a fashion show during the month of December.

Traveling Chic

Here in Haiti we often have long weekend holidays and luckily for us this past November 1st/2nd, we were able to take a break from our hectic lives, travel earlier and enjoy almost a week-long vacation.

White Blazer from Lush, asymmetric black and white diagonal striped blouse from H&M. Mustard blazer from Zara.

Here are a few pictures of what we spotted at the airport:

My favorite look was this Fashionista wearing colored pants, a black blazer and those cool booties.

In Ayiti we travel in style by accessorizing …

Either with carry ons or backpacks like these youngsters …

… Or With a big purse and scarf

Even when taking longer flights and colder weather:

Back to school!!!

It’s fall fellow fashion lovers, and for us islanders living in (Oh the horror!) North US or Canada,  it’s time to cover up… But I love this season! The color of the leaves, the rain, feel so romantic to me. Yes I am a sap, so just embrace it.

My first back to school look:

I don’t think going to school is a fashion show… I’m all about looking neat, put together and comfortable, especially since it’s cold. And before my fellow bloggers come bashing on my head with a stiletto, let me make my case. It’s a fairly simple one actually, as it is cold outside, and my classes are far apart, I’m outside a lot. I could walk around in 6 inch booties and sport red lipstick, but I would be miserable. Plus it wouldn’t be as special when I actually decide to hit it hard.

I always go for classic looks for school… Jeans, blouse and boots… I do make sure they fit well, and don’t tug and hang weirdly.

I love these boots…. They go with anything! You always need a few investment pieces that last forever.

I also go for barely there makeup. A touch of mascara and a lightly tinted lip balm is my go to. Also I moisturize daily and always ALWAYS use sunblock.

Happy Fall!

Yes guys, you can wear skinny jeans …

How many of you guys have pushed away the thought of wearing skinny jeans, afraid of being mocked? In the past, skinny jeans have been worn exclusively by rockers or gay men, and that’s probably why most of you hesitate or are skeptical when it comes to skinny jeans. Over the years, we’ve found that they have become steadily integrated into the fashion scene in the form of skinny blue jeans, colored jeans and even skinny pants. Nowadays skinny pants have been adopted by many and thus have developed a more ‘urban’ identity.

Yes, even rappers!

Honestly, I find men in skinny jeans very sexy. Let’s be clear: by “skinny jeans” I don’t mean “pants so tight they look like leggings”. They should be close-fitting and, without delving to much into vulgarity, accentuate the male form.

Men’s Health fashion director, Brian Boye once said, “The most important thing to understand about skinny jeans is that they don’t make you look skinny”. The harsh reality is that not everyone can wear skinny jeans and actually pull it off. Many details should be taken into consideration when deciding whether or not to wear skinny jeans:

First of all, in order to rock skinny jeans, you must have the right body type. They look best on guys who have an endomorph body type (in other words, a slim body type). Since skinny jeans should sit low on your hips, men who are muscular or who are a little on the heavy side, should refrain from wearing them.

Secondly, a rule of thumb when it comes to wearing skinny jeans is, if your feet are bigger than size 11, DON’T! The fact of the matter is, wearing skinny jeans draws attention to your ankles, and the next logical step are your feet. Longer feet tend to look more awkward with skinny jeans, so that’s a definite “no-no”.

Lastly, what you wear the skinny jeans with makes a huge difference. Our personal favorite combo is skinny jeans with a plain V-neck T-shirt, preferably a solid color. This can be worn as is, or, for a less casual look, underneath a plain blazer. A very fashionable alternative, that is very popular these days, is the skinny jean/plaid shirt combo. As for shoes, best options are Converse® and Toms® for casual attire and distressed boots for a more stylish look. If you feel like being a little more daring and adventurous, try rolling up the hem of the pants and wearing moccasins. It’s a classier and edgier look that is sure to get you all the kinds of attention.

Helpful tip: If you don’t feel like rolling up the hem, or aren’t comfortable doing so, roll up the arms of the shirt or blazer. It makes a difference.

Brave Fashionisto Christopher Thomas sent us his pictures buying skinny pants.

Last Week’s Favorite

Twenty-2 jewelry designer Coraline Bennett Acra was spotted wearing a vintage skeleton T-shirt with basic satin cream trousers. For accessories, the Fashionista opted for a Chanel quilted bag, Tod’s navy blue sandals and was wearing her own creation of sea green necklace with a gold chain.

Her sense of fashion is not only reflected in her outfit, but in that of her adorable son Reza. He wore a plain white Tee, 7 Jeans and red Tod’s Gommino Suede Driving Moccasins.

Casual Friday

Our favorite day of the week is finally here !! My outfit today you dare ask? It’s very simple and casual.

Dark skinny low-rise jeans, loose white embroidered top with wide laced straps: both from ZARA. Over it, a lightweight curved lapel taupe blazer from Lush. And since it’s Friday, before work, I stopped at the salon to do my nails. I’m wearing snakeskin sandals with gold stripes in the back from Steve Madden. Chanel sunglasses in brown, and a black tote bag.

Did London Fashion Week prove the city’s title as Fashion Capital of the World?

The extensive media coverage of the London Olympics this past summer as well as the elegance of the Duchess of Cambridge, really helped solidify the city’s title as “Fashion Capital of the World” for the second consecutive year, surpassing New York City that had held the title for years. While Paris and Milan will always be known for their elegance in Haute Couture, London’s fashion scene and designers are know for their extravagant eccentricity and edge. (see slideshow at the end)

What did London Fashion Week deliver this season?

This week, London-based designers have shown us once again why they are among the elite in the fashion world. From Louise Gray’s Kaleidoscope show and Peter Pilotto’s amazing prints to the 70’s disco party at Jonathan Saunders and Meadham Kirchhoff’s memorable spectacle, the runway was flooded with a variety of colors and quirky prints.

We cannot forget THE Christopher Kane who, in his collection this season, played with sheer fabrics as accents to garments, while also incorporating lace, ruffles and detailed beading as embellishments. Mulberry added a fresh scent of florals to its “English Garden” collection using a palette of cream, peach, and mint. Appropriately enough, Lady Gaga opened Philip Treacy’s show which was presented as an homage to Michael Jackson. Models walked the runway in Treacy’s collection which was inspired by vintage MJ costumes.

Of course, there is always London’s one and only Burberry Prorsum that delivered an electric space-age show. “I want it to be joyous, a bit sassier and sexier”, said creative director Christopher Bailey. Metallic leather, shiny satin corsets, foil-like fabrics, silk capes and iridescent body suits invaded the catwalk in a wide range of gemstone and metallic colors such as: copper, bronze, emerald, turquoise and garnet. For the finale, Bailey had his models walk out in a rainbow of metallic trench coats.

This year’s Spring/Summer 2013 London Fashion Week leaves little or no doubt that London deserves its title. It has continued to embody new and innovative fashion trends. In doing so, it daringly, yet capriciously, rounds out the “Big-Four” of Fashion Capitals of the World.

Lo and I spent the weekend at the beach in the beautiful Cotes des Arcadins in Haiti.

Saturday night was the 3rd annual WET party where girls modeled in sexy bikinis and cover-ups. Despite the mass of people present, we managed to spot some very risqué, yet elegant beachwear: a deep-V one-piece suit with cut out sides, a crochet knitted back monokini, a strapless animal print, many colorful Brazilian bikinis, and some very sexy sheer beach tunics.

Our outfits for the beach?

Black shorts, white vintage tank, red espadrilles and black Fedora hat
Cut-off denim shorts, sailor laced back tee with black patent leather flip flops

Here are a few pictures of ” île de la Gonâve” (La Gonave island) where we spent the day on Sunday.

The perks of living on an island: tropical sun, great friends, good laughs and the gorgeous Caribbean sea … Awesome weekend.
